Let them be kids!
I’ve had the pleasure of working with children as an SLP since 2007. I hold a Master of Science in Speech-Language and Auditory Pathology from East Carolina University. After graduate school, I returned “home” to Fayetteville, NC. In Fayetteville, I had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings serving children ages birth through high school. These settings included inclusive developmental preschools, elementary schools, “natural environments” (homes, daycares), and private practice clinics. In the clinics and preschools, collaboration between myself and other service providers was afforded to me. As a new clinician this opportunity was invaluable. I began my journey on learning to view the whole child from the perspectives of the Occupational (OTs), and Physical (PTs) therapists with whom I was able to work closely. Being able to treat the whole child and make timely referrals to other therapists is key in to improving communication, learning, and feeding difficulties in my own clients.
I opened Dogwood Developmental Therapy in Hampstead in February 2017. Having been a visitor to Topsail since childhood, I have wanted to move to the area for many years. When I learned of the need for services in the area from the parent of a young child, I realized it was time to make that move. I was motivated by the chance to provide accessible services without compromising quality of care to an area that was in need. In September 2019, I moved my office to Surf City where I am currently located.
I have a special interest in working with Autistic children, and children with feeding, speech-intelligibility and pragmatic language difficulties due to sensory-integration or motor-speech disorders. I am eager to bring my knowledge and experience with these sensitive populations to the Topsail Island area.
I look forward to getting to know you and your child!
